The Fabric Design Masterclass is the first of five exclusive workshops hosted by Making Fashion Academy leading up to the Northern Threads runway show in May 2026. This two-day textile design masterclass, led by Julia Plante, a Textile Design student from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, introduces participants to the art of fabric design. You’ll learn how to transform sketches into seamless repeats and walk away with one metre of fabric printed with your own custom design.

You can use the toolkit and skills gained in the class to create a custom print outside of the workshop, or use the fabric designed during the masterclass to build your final look as part of your application for the Fabric Lab section of the Northern Threads runway show. No sewing experience is required; just bring your creativity.
